ORLANDO
In Development
Written by Virginia Woolf.
Adapted by Marcus Bazley, with the company.
Running time: approximately 1 hour 10 minutes, with no interval.
2018 -
Originally conceived in 2018 at the Barbican Centre, Orlando has been developed with support from: Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Wiltshire Creative and Anvil Arts.
Orlando is a young man in Elizabethan England starting to write...and a middle-aged woman in 1920s London trying to finish.
Woolf's masterpiece takes us on a dreamlike journey, as time, identity and culture shift and re-form around Orlando.
Told by torchlight and devised by the company, this playful and physical production explores the changes and constants in history, and in ourselves.
"There's something very current and very important about a person who wakes up in a different body but is the same person. And who gets to experience being perceived as a man and being perceived as a woman.
It says a lot about how society treats people based on what they see on the outside."
