"Gave me the confidence and experience to take the next step."

Benjamin Teare (Create 2016)

Our university programme, Cyphers Create, is specifically designed to empower you to make your own way in the industry.

Coming to the end of a degree and realising that a career in theatre is what you really want to pursue, can be a daunting, scary and isolating experience.

We understand! We've been there!

Based on our work with student groups and our own experiences, we've created a series of resources to help you make the transition from student to professional theatre.

You'll have so many questions rattling around, all whilst trying to finish your studies and come out with a degree.

Through our resources and our Create community, you'll have the ability to ask these questions to those who've been where you are now, find some answers, feel part of a creative community and be ready to take the next steps.

Cyphers was founded by university graduates. Our Artistic Directors have all made the transition from student to professional theatre, and many of the actors and creatives we work with have done the same.

So we know first hand the questions, challenges and concerns you face when considering a career in theatre after graduating. We're here to help, support and mentor you through this transition. So check out the resources below and if you've got more questions get in touch! We'd love to hear from you.

If you're looking to applying to drama schools, then you're in the right place! Students from our Create course have gone on to train at some of the countries leading drama schools, including: LAMDA, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Oxford School of Drama and Drama Centre.

Previous Create course students have also gone into various careers off-stage in the industry such as Directing, Stage Management and work in Literary and Marketing Departments. Alumni of the course have worked at prestigious venues including The Royal Court, The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Donmar Warehouse, Barbican Centre and in the West End.

“gives a real sense of the way drama schools and professional directors encourage their actors to work. I cannot recommend it highly enough."

Adam went on to train at LAMDA.

Here we've brought together a variety of free resources specifically designed to help students and recent graduates make their first steps in the theatre industry.

Whether you're thinking of applying to drama school or just wanting to get out there and make theatre, there are resources here for you!

Below you'll find things to read and listen to, and ways to connect with us and other members of the Cyphers Create Community. As well as our workshops and mentoring packages.

We update the content regularly, so let us know if there's something you'd really like to see on here and we'll see what we can do!

Join our Co-Artistic Directors, Marcus Bazley and Will Holyhead, as they share their experiences of transitioning from student to professional theatre.

Over the series they're joined by a host of amazing guests who all went to university and are now working in theatre. They talk to people working across all areas of theatre on and off the stage. A great way to discover what roles there are and the different ways you can break into the profession.
