Meet the Team – Toby Vaughan

Toby Vaughan

Toby Vaughan as a Gothic bandit in Northanger Abbey.

What’s your name? Toby Vaughan

What role(s) do you play in the Northanger Abbey? Mrs Allen, John Thorpe and Captain Tilney.

What’s your favourite scene or moment in the play? Selfishly, I love the first moment I appear as Mrs Allen, I also love the moments when the build up of gothic tension is suddenly sapped.

What have you enjoyed most about making the show? Improvising scenes, allowing us to put the scripts down as soon as possible. Allows you to play about with the characters without the stress of getting the words right.

What’s going to surprise people about the show? They all die (whoops).

Do you have any pre-show rituals? I tend to find a ritual for each show I do, usually in the build up to production week, although it differs from show to show.

What do you do when you’re not doing theatre? Sport and travel. My life is all about play.

What one thing do you hope the audience will take away from this production? I hope they have some fun and feel they’ve had an entertaining evening.
