One of our principle aims when founding Cyphers was to make the world of professional theatre as accessible as possible. This includes providing affordable training opportunities and alternative routes into the profession, as well as sharing our approach to theatre with schools and community groups through workshops and performances.

"gave me the confidence and experience to take the next step"

Cyphers Create is our flagship creative learning programme, providing university students with an introduction to professional theatre and professional theatre training.

Through the programme, we give 10 students from across two universities the opportunity to work with us, a professional programme director and our specialist associate practitioners to develop and hone their core acting skills.

Cyphers Create runs over 8 weeks, consisting of 8 full day Saturday sessions and culminating in an informal public sharing on the final Saturday. Each week focusses on a core skill or theme, with a specialist practitioner workshop in the morning and further work with the Cyphers team in the afternoon.

Graduates from this programme have gone on to act in our professional productions and to further training at drama schools including:

We run workshops on a wide range of theatre and literature topics for those just starting out right through to professional performers and theatre makers looking to develop their practice further. Our sessions vary from 1 hour library discussions to weekend workshops.

Our workshops tend to focus on one or more of the following areas:

- ensemble building and theatre making

- adaptation

- Shakespeare

- devising.

We seek to empower people to engage with classic stories. In our library sessions we open up our approach to adaptation and explore key themes within classic texts for adults and students alike.

Show Workshops

Alongside each of our productions we offer workshops to help demystify the theatre making process. These workshops will explore the exercises developed whilst making a piece, the themes and issues within a piece, and create building blocks to inspire participants' own creative ideas.

As well as our Create programme, we regularly go into universities to share our approach to theatre.

As a theatre company that came out of university, we are always keen to help the next generation of theatre makers find their feet.
